On September 10, 2025, CTLE hosted an e-learning conversation exploring the updated UMMoodle and the pilot GetMarked service. Led by Dr. Chris Fulton, the session provided colleagues with opportunities to explore numerous new features for teachers and students, features that have been requested by teachers around the world.

This summer, UMMoodle was updated from version 3.9 to 4.5, introducing an interface designed to facilitate a “focus on learning.” For instance, in version 4.5 of Moodle, the interface has been revamped to allow for easier navigation and editing of course pages. Other new features, such as the TinyMCE editor, make it easier for teachers and students to write and format text, as well as record audio, which could be used by teachers to provide more personalized feedback. In focused discussion activities, colleagues explored how a range of features could be used to support student learning from new AI tools and upgraded assignments to revamped quiz and grading features such as grading rubrics, and more.

A pilot quiz converting service, GetMarked.ai, was also introduced. This service converts Word documents with quiz questions or test banks into a Moodle-compatible format. A guide to GetMarked is available from CTLE’s website.

For additional guidance and technical support, ICTO’s Help Desk offers essential FAQs and assistance with UMMoodle for all UM instructors, staff, and students. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like help getting started or troubleshooting new features.

The presentation slides from this event are available to colleagues.
