Project Description

Innovative Teaching & Assessment with Generative AI: a Faculty Learning Community (FLC)

In 2026, CTLE will organize a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) with a focus on innovative teaching and assessment with Generative AI.

Faculty are navigating new challenges with the increasing use of generative AI in teaching and assessment practices. This FLC provides a structured, year-long opportunity for faculty to explore responsible AI integration and implement innovative teaching and assessment practices that promote authentic learning, ensure students achieve learning outcomes and prepare students for AI-enabled workplaces. Participants will develop both AI-resistant and AI-enhanced teaching practices and assessments that are effective across disciplines.

Accepted members will be enrolled in a dedicated Moodle course site created for resource sharing and online discussions. There will be 5-6 meetings in the calendar year of 2026. Members who consistently contribute to the group will receive a citation documenting their participation.

Goals can include:

  1. A redesigned assessment strategy using an AI-resistant or process-product approach to maintain rigor while embracing AI.
  2. A redesigned lesson plan or module incorporating active learning strategies and generative AI activities for learners.
  3. Develop Copilot expertise: Participants will become familiar with designing prompts and agents using M365 Copilot to enhance teaching and assessment practices.
  4. Create shared resources: Develop a case study of teaching or assessment practices or an implementation guide for generative AI use in class and on assessments, which are shared in blog posts.
  5. Scholarship on T&L: Produce publishable research on AI integration experiences for peer-reviewed journals.

Successful participants will receive:

  • Annual subscription to M365 Copilot (2) (ICTO)
  • Book: Bowen, J. A., & Watson, C. E. (2025). Teaching with AI: A practical guide to a new era of human learning (2nd ed.). Baltimore, MD: Johns Hopkins University Press.
  • Peer support and consultations at CTLE

The online application for the Innovative Teaching & Assessment with GenAI FLC 2026 is now open until 11 December 2025. Enrollment is limited to 10 faculty members.
