Facing the rapidly changing and increasingly interconnected world, education and training systems in Asia-Pacific are placing greater emphasis on 21st century skills or transversal competencies in education polices. The central importance of these ideals is reflected in the global community’s commitment to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, including the Education 2030 Framework for Action. Nevertheless, assessing transversal competencies can be a complex endeavor. This presentation provides an overview of recent studies by the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education on the integration, interpretation and adaptation of transversal competencies and how they reflect the diversity and multiplicity of the region.
