Recent Improvements to UMMoodle for Teachers and Teaching Assistants

ICTO upgraded UMMoodle to Moodle 3.4 on 23 June. A few of the new core features and third-party enhancements are described below.

Improved messaging tools in Moodle 3.4 let teachers send links, Youtube videos, emojis in messages, chats and forum posts.

A new Moodle Mobile app for iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS provides students with quick access to course content, notifications and messages.

The Team Builder activity is a tool that helps teachers identify characteristics of students and then organize the students into online groups.

The new Media Collection activity allows students to upload photos or videos and comment on their peers’ pictures.

Inspire Analytics is an experimental tool that should allow teachers to get notified when a student is at risk of dropping out.

Changes to activity completion tracking enable teachers to mark students’ activities as complete.

ICTO will arrange some training workshops to support staff in becoming familiar with the new version of UMMoodle, Community and ePortfolio. Dates and details of the training workshops will be announced in a UMToday newsletter, an ICTO newsletter or a UMMoodle forum.
